"A Flight Leader" Dale
Locander takes his faithful Taube up for a flight. I guess this old bird
has been around for quite a a while, and so has the plane. (Geez Dale,
sorry, I shouldn't pick on you twice on the same page).

From England, Chris Poyser sent the photos
above of a couple of the big 1/3 scale birds they fly. First
ones are of his Morane Saulnier Type N 'Bullet' C1916. It is built to
33% scale, powerd by a Zenoah G62 on a 24x8 propellor, weight is 14 kgs, it
is still waiting for dummy engine and spinner these will now be made and
fitted now all test flights are done.
The
biplane is his clubmate's AIRCO DH2. Again to 33% scale powered by a G62,
but this time through a Mick Reeves 1;1.75/1 reduction belt drive and a
custom built 9inch long extension drive keeps the engine in front of balance
point just behind the cockpit. These are two of the planes they intend to
fly in formation displays at
UK
shows 2006. Next to join them is to be a 33% scale Sopwith triplane,
currently about 60% finished (as of October 2005).

John Fitzmaurice sent in these shots
of the McCudden SE5 he's doing. I was intrigued by the spinner
(which I hadn't seen on an SE5 before) and asked John about it. John wrote
back: "McCudden took the spinner from an LVG he shot down and
had it installed on B4891 while at no.56 Squadron. He shot the LVG C.V
down while flying a different SE5, B35. I'll send you the drawings from
High in the Empty Blue. My spinner is a Albatross D5 spinner sold by
Arizona Models and works real well. I'm using a Roto 35 to spin the 20x8
(no.1 prop man) custom prop. The 1/4 scale SE5 is sold by Bob Holeman but
as the Wolseley Viper version. I am making all the modifications to build
the Hispano-Suiza version which B4891 was. |

| Jerry Bunner (from Indianapolis,
IN) sent these pics of his completed Balsa USA Bristol M1c. Yes, this is
an scale color scheme. The "Red Devil" was an M1c that made its
way to Australia after the war, and was flown in airshows. It still exists
today in a museum
in Australia. And is the only surviving original M1c. Very sharp! |
