have enjoyed WWI aircraft for as long as I can remember. I have dabbled
with them over the years but nothing serous until about 2003. That
was when I started building my first scratch build scale airplane the DH-2

“I
really enjoy the history and the re-creation of history we are able to do
through the building, detailing and flying of WW1 & vintage aircraft.
I really enjoy researching and reading up on the planes I have built and
are currently flying. It gives me the opportunity to share what I know
about WW1 aircraft with kids and people at air shows and events. An
opportunity to keep alive the history and primitive early days of the WW1
fighter.”

James W. "Rich" Richardson -

"I've been hooked on WW 1 aviation since the early
70s, my favorite movie is "The Blue Max", I have watched it dozens of times. I love
to build and lately I have added more scale detail to my projects. WW I aircraft
have
such classic lines and a statement of character. I enjoy reading and
researching the history of these aircraft and that era."

Steve "Camel
Jockey" Carter - Anderson Indiana, USA
I saw a build thread
on the hangar 9 60 size Sopwith camel, I have been a bi-plane fan since I
was a kid so I just had to have this one. I love flying it and watching it
fly. Subsequently I found the Hoosier dawn Patrol website and found out
they where having an event in
muncie
(15 minutes from my
house) and had to attend. WOW!!! Those giant scale war birds where
beautiful and sparked all kinds of emotions watching them fly. I had to
build one so i bought a 1/4 scale Nieuport 11 on the spot. Can't wait to
fly it this season. so now I am an AVID ww1 aircraft NUT!!.. I am glad to
know there are more like me.

"I
really enjoy the historical/technical aspect of WW I aircraft. There
is a lot to choose from when considering what to build and fly. Various
methods of construction and a maze of rigging wire to keep things in their
place just adds to the overall appeal of these "Contraptions".

“I have always liked airplanes,
especially those with propellers. The slow, methodical flight of the
early planes just adds that much more appeal. I am also a full scale
pilot and received my taildragger checkout in a 1943 Stearman PT 17.”
