Wm. David Turnwald - Lothrop, Michigan - USA

Don Carroll (a.k.a. "AbuFletcher" on RCU) -
Orange
, California - USA
but now back in Shikoku, Japan (university proff.)

"I've been fascinated with WWI aircraft for just about as long as I can remember.  I know I bought a book on the subject, and poured over it for years, when I was in the fifth grade.  They have a calm grace to them that the later warbirds lack.  One can only imagine the sort of guts it took to do a loop in one of these early aircraft.

AMA# 800953
Flying RC since Jan. 2004, WW1 since.July 2004

Approx. 1/6 scale Fokker Eindecker EIII

http://www.coronarcclub.com/index.htm

Future plans?  Well I'm pretty sure my next all-out scale project will be one of the WWI two-seater biplanes.  I'm strongly leaning towards either the Albatros CIII or the Bristol Fighter F2B.  Both have the "funkiness" I crave in a scale model.  I might also get some sport scale fighter like the Funaero DIII to have as a weekend flyer.  So many planes, so little time!

"As far as I can remember WW1 had always held a certain interest in my life. Just the sight of these beautifully crafted machines taken to the air and thought of how the pilots flew them into combat by their wits and the seat of their pants makes it rewarding to recreate a scaled version of one".

"WW1 models have a lot of charm, and I really enjoy working with wood.  It's very fulfilling to bring an old design to life, even though it's in miniature form."

Brett.jpg (28558 bytes)

Daniel (von Hammer) Brett - Georgetown, Texas - USA
"I have always been fascinated since I was very little with old planes. I love the fabric and wood, all the bracing wire and drag, the challenging flight characteristics, the crowd appeal, the history, and the pilots. They just have such classic lines and are probably more enjoyable to build than to fly sometimes. They present such a challenge in modeling."

AMA# 39853
32 years Flying RC and WW1 ("Holy cow! - now that you make me think about it")

Bleriot Type XI,1/6 scale  kit by Royal. (Built in 1989 and still flying!)

Future Plans: Too Many!  Currently he's building the VK trilogy of the Nieuport 17, Fokker Dr1, and Sopwith Camel- all 1/6 scale. Then will follow with the old Top Flight Se5a in 1/6. Currently also building a 1/4Proctor Fokker D7 for a friend up in Zionsville, IN. Next, the Pilot Nieuport 28 in 1/6 and kits will be done (although he is tempted by the Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter by Proctor). Then, move into scratchbuilding planes again. (Gotta get these kits out of the way!). He would like to design a kit someday.

Daniel is also the new owner of Williams Brothers Model Products

There are a lot of good R/C Modeling forums out there. But for the Sale Builder and WW1 buff, we highly recommend two.  "The Aerodrome" and their R/C Modeling forum, and RCSCALEBUILDER.COM
